THE SENTENCE
A group of words which makes complete sense, is called a sentence. Every sentence has two parts the subject and the predicate. अर्थात् शब्दों का वह समूह जो अपना पूर्ण अर्थ व्यक्त करता हो, वाक्य कहलाता है। वाक्य के दो भाग होते हैं-
1. कर्ता (Subject) 2. विधेय (predicate)
Subject and predicate
The subject is that word or part of sentence, which names the person or thing, we are speaking about. अर्थात् कोई भी वाक्य जिस व्यक्ति, वस्तु या स्थान के विषय में कहता है वह कर्ता कहलाता है। जबकि वाक्य का शेष भाग विधेय predicate कहलाता है। Predicate is that word or part of sentence which says something about the subject.जैसे- The parrot flew away.
इस वाक्य में 'The parrot' कर्ता है। वाक्य का शेष भाग 'flew away predicate है। इस प्रकार के वाक्यों के कुछ उदाहरण देखिये-
1.The boy stood on the burning ship (लड़का जलते हुये जहाज पर खड़ा रहा । )
2. The singing of birds delights us (चिड़ियों की आवाज हमें आनन्दित करती है। )
3. The earth moves round the sun. ( धरती सूर्य के चारो ओर घुमती है)
4. A barking sound I heard.(मैंने भूकने की आवाज सूनी । )
5. On the top of the hill lives a hermit. (पहाड़ी पर एक संत रहते हैं।)
6. Goa way. (बाहर जाओ। )

1. Sita was a student of class VI. 2. The house caught fire. 3. I found him in the crowd. 4. A tiger roars in the jungle. 5. Run away. 6. Edison invented the phonograph. 7. Radha and Shyama dance. 8. I don't like this picture. 9. He praises the virtuous. 10. Bring a glass of juice. 11. Don't stay here. 12. It doesn't rain here. 13. I don't know him. 14. When will you go to Beohari? 15. Come to meat seven daily in the morning. 16. You shouldn't waste your time and money.
