DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUN
Pronouns which are used to point out the object or objects to which they refer are called demonstrative pronouns. वे शब्द जो किसी एक वस्तु या अधिक वस्तुओं की ओर संकेत करते हैं, उन संकेत करने वाले शब्दों को संकेतवाचक सर्वनाम कहते है, जैसे:-
- This is a gift from my friend,
- These are merely excuses, (ये सब केवल बहाने हैं)
- Both pens are good, but this is better than that.
- Lucknow mangoes are better than those of Banda.
- That is mango tree.
उक्त सभी मोटे शब्द (bold words) संकेतवाचक सर्वनाम हैं।
(i) जब this, that, these, those, आदि संज्ञा से पहले आते है तो इन्हें संकेतवाचक विशेषण (demonstrative Adjectives) कहते है, जैसे:-
- This house is mine. (Dem. Adj.)
- That chair is yours.(Dem. Adj.)
- What was that noise? (Dem. Adj.)
- All such people should be invited. (Dem. Adj.)
- This cow is better than that cow. (Dem. Adj.)
(ii) This का प्रयोग समीप की वस्तुओं अथवा कहने वाले के निकट (near) की वस्तुओं के लिए और that का प्रयोग दूर की वस्तुओं के लिए होता है। जैसे:-
- This is better than that.
(iii) That और उसके बहुवचन those का प्रयोग पहले आई हुई संज्ञा (preceding Noun ) की पुनरावृत्ति (Repetition) को बचाने के लिए होता है। जैसे:-
- The people of my town are better than those of cities.
- The weather of my town is like that of yours.
- My house is better than that of Mohan's.
